If processing an application or other business for a new client (i.e. new relationship to the Rep and new to Spire), it is assumed that you are meeting personally with this new client. This is an assumption particularly in light of new Investor Protection issues.
You must obtain for the client:
An original application for the applicable platform signed by all parties to the account and copy of an unexpired, government ID such as a driver’s license or passport (See our CIP Policies & Procedures).
Each representative signing a new account application is certifying that he/she can attest to the identity of the individual that is opening the account.
Documents requiring approval by a principal are to be scanned into Laserfiche into your _Items for Review Folder. Please see Scanning Instructions for Workflow for proper procedure. From there the documents are systematically sent to the Approval Queue for processing. A principal will review and if approved, sign electronically and move the file to the Approved folder under the Consultants name. At this point you can complete the account opening process below:
- For Spire direct business – You may mail the originals to the direct business sponsor company.
- Applications for Schwab, IWS and Pershing PAS – you should fax to the account processing areas of those firms for activation. Fax numbers are located/preprogramed in email or

***Account Paperwork can also be Uploaded to the platforms – Uploading has the advantage to faxing because the document is immediately attached to the account and placed in the correct queue – reducing processing times and making the process quicker. It also assures you that the document has been sent to the platform
- Make sure all account paper work has the assigned account number on each page prior to faxing/uploading the documents.
- NFS accounts can be opened up online once approved by Spire;
- You must fax/upload NFS’s Approved Retirement Account applications to NFS at 877-330-2504.
Pershing DBS accounts will be opened manually on NetX360 via Account Services once approved by Spire.
- Fax/upload only supporting documents (adoption agreement, ttee certification, Option Agreement, Margin Agreement).
- Non-retirement new account forms don’t need to be faxed.
- Original Non – ACAT transfer forms will still need to be submitted to Spire Operations/Reston and once approved you will fax/upload those to clearing firm.
- Check writing/Standing instructions/Margin etc.: These items should be requested through their respective platform’s Cashiering tool. Then scanned to Laserfiche for review. You should then fax/upload these documents to appropriate party for processing once approved. ***For all third party money movement – please ensure that you are including both Spire’s 3rd party attestation and the platforms’ attestation.
- Once the approved documents have been faxed/uploaded to the appropriate party by your office you can setup a client file in Laserfiche and move the files.
